Meta Tag Generator
Create the title, meta description, canonical, robots and Open Graph tags for a page in one block, ready to paste into the HTML head.
Paste this inside <head>
How to use the meta tag generator
Fill in the page title, meta description and canonical URL, add a share image and your site name, and choose how search engines should treat the page. Copy the result into the <head> of the page.
- Search engines: “index and follow” is the default, so no robots tag is added. Choose “large image previews” to allow big images in results, or
noindexfor pages that shouldn’t appear in search (thank-you pages, internal search results). - Open Graph: the generator adds the four properties the Open Graph protocol requires (title, type, image, URL), plus description and site name, and the card tag that X (Twitter) reads. Without an image, social networks show a blank card.
- No meta keywords: Google’s list of supported meta tags says the meta keywords tag isn’t used by Google Search.
Check the result
Titles and descriptions are cut by pixel width, not characters: test them with the title tag length checker. Pages that should be indexed also need to be crawlable, which you can check with the robots.txt tester. Once a page is live, the CTR calculator shows whether its title and description earn clicks.
Frequently asked questions
Which meta tags matter for SEO?
The title tag and meta description (shown in search results), the canonical link (which URL to index), the robots meta tag when a page should not be indexed, and the viewport tag for mobile pages. Open Graph tags control how links look when shared on social networks and messaging apps.
Should I add a meta keywords tag?
No. Google says the meta keywords tag is not used by Google Search and has no effect on indexing and ranking, so this generator leaves it out.
Which Open Graph tags are required?
The Open Graph protocol requires og:title, og:type, og:image and og:url. og:description and og:site_name are optional but recommended.
Should I use a robots meta tag or robots.txt to keep a page out of Google?
Use the noindex robots meta tag. Google has to crawl the page to see it, so don't also block that page in robots.txt.
